How to Get in Touch with People You Knew Before Email (and How Not to Creep Them Out When You Do).

“The Letter”

You know the kind of letter I’m talking about. Say you get in touch with a girl you knew back in middle school. Someone you knew because your older brothers used to hang out. Then you had little 6th grade crushes on each other that went nowhere except for — maybe — the Saturday matinee. You went the rest of your middle school years socializing in the same group of friends, going to the pool in the summer together, eating at the same table in the cafeteria. And when you passed each other in the hallway, you said “Hi, how are you doing?” and were genuinely interested in the response.

So you write the letter [and she makes mental notes].

Happy Valentines Day!

Send Us a Valentine (you could win an iPod :-)

Dandelife is approaching its 6-month anniversary of being an independent, small community site built on love and kindness: the love of family and friends; the kindness of strangers. The site has grown from 3 to 6,000 members during that time through the generous support of you. Yeah, you and your family and your friends. 22,000 stories later, it’s safe to say that we’re all having a lot of fun and sharing the fun is its own reward.

Can you feel the warm fuzzies yet? We need some love too! More specifically, we want to know why you Dandelife. To keep in touch with friends and family? To tell stories? To share in the collective fun of looking at our pasts in a whole new way? Or do you Dandelife for some other reason? We want to hear it in your words. So we pose this question:

Why do you love Dandelife?

Did I mention there’s an iPod in it for ya? We’re teaming with Apple and (Product)Red to share the love. You can’t call it a bribe, because only the best entry wins the (Product)Red iPod Nano, and the proceeds serve a very worth cause.

Apple Store

Don’t know how to put your love into words? Don’t stress. Just read some of these unsolicited testimonials. If you can do better, we want to read it.

Enter your testimonial for the Valentine’s day share-the-love iPod:

  1. Write a story
  2. Make sure the story is public.
  3. Tag it “testimonial” or “testimonials”

Follow these three steps and we’ll be sure to find it. If you’re the winner, we’ll let you know via email and sort out the particulars thereafter. Though the love will continue for many years to come, we need to see a published entry no later than February 28th this year. That’s two weeks from now - so get typing!
