The New Stuff

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

A number of new features in this version. Here’s a list:

  • What color is your privacy?
  • Contextual timelines - tags and people are related to the author first, the world second.
  • SIMILE Timeline Export
  • Re-design of your vanity page.
  • Putting your favorites on display.
  • Ad sponsorship (Apple, yay!)
  • Story page layout has changed.
  • Adding tags has changed a bit.
  • Download ALL of your stories.
  • Photo slide show.
  • Speed, speed, speed.
  • Export your life in XML format.
  • Emphasize the widget (widgetbox widget now available too).

Took out:

  • People’s blog.
  • Sidebar on the story page.

I also wanted to take a minute to thank everyone who is giving us feedback in the forums too. It really makes life a lot easier here at “Dandelife Central” (I use that term loosely since none of us working on the project actually lives in the same city). Without positive feeback, contructive criticism and complaints we would have to run on instinct alone. That said, our instincts can’t be that bad, but the words of our members is much, much better indeed.

Thanks to ALL who’ve made this place hum with activity. Keep sharing those stories!

One Down, Eleven to Go

Here we are at the tail end of the first month of the year. The holidays are past the new year has just begun. Earlier this month we talked about New Years “intentions.” Dandelife is a good tool for chronicaling your success in those endeavors. But did you know that you can use Dandelife to automatically write your end-of-year holiday letter? It true! Here’s how:

  1. Come back to Dandelife throughout 2007.
  2. Write about your memories while they are fresh.
  3. In December, invite your friends and family to your dandelife!

Dandelife Newsletter: Good Intentions

Cheers to 2007!

Looking back

Each passing year brings new stories. Though it may be the first month of a brand new year, perhaps only now do we have the time to take stock of our recent holiday tales. Holy moly, was that 2006? It passed by so quickly!

In the spirit of looking back, why not take a moment to recall some of your recently-minted fond and fattening memories:

  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa
  • New Year’s (share these photos!)
  • For you, what was the highlight of 2006?

Looking forward

Now that 2006 is settled, here’s an idea for the New Year. Instead of resolutions (which most of us have already broken), I have decided to have intentions. Intentions just don’t seem so black-tie to me. For example . . .

This year I intend to:

  • smell coffee before I drink it,
  • be nicer to strangers,
  • travel more,
  • use “holy moly” in more sentences,
  • get in touch with some old friends,
  • and eat more cake.

Please also share your intentions with all of us. Tag your intentions stories with, you guessed it, “intentions”.

I wish you all occasions to eat cake this year! Welcome, 2007 !

When a ‘Life Book’ Is All There Is to Recall a Childhood - New York Times

Login required.

Touching story about orphans and the memories they take with them in their life books. There are a few Dandelifers who have also had their share of foster home experiences - either as children themselves or as parents or siblings.
